The REAL Greek Salad

I came across this blog post today on Kalofagas about Greek salad, and I had to share because it seems this author has the same issues I do on the subject!

First of all, Greek Salad (known as horiatiki or village salad) does not contain lettuce of any kind! It is simply tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, red onion, feta, and olive oil/vinegar. Other add-ons that restuarants/diners may include are grape leaves or meat. Don’t trust those restaurants 😉

This author also notes the importance of using Greek olive oil and feta. It may not seem like a big deal to substitute for cheaper, or more easily available products, but it makes a huge difference, trust me!!

Have fun reading this blog, and then try to make your own, following the guidelines. You won’t be disappointed!

P.S. In other news, print a coupon for a discounted Jamba Juice smoothie under 250 calories in NY here!

  1. love that there is no lettuce in this salad. Growing up in Russia, our salad was tomato/cucumber/onion/oil 🙂

Also, really glad you made and liked my tofu recipe! Thanks for leaving a comment to let me know that.

    • Thanks for the comment, Olga! The RUssian salad sounds delicious as well! I love reading your blog, and trying your recipes-they’re so diverse!

I’m sure we’ll share more recipes soon 🙂
